If this is the first time you've received a Duty and VAT invoice from us then you may have some questions that you'd like answering before you pay it.
We hope that by reading the most frequently asked questions everything will become clear, but if you have any other questions, we'll be happy to help.
Duties and taxes are consumption taxes. Customs offices in importing countries will assess and levy duties and taxes on items imported and purchased from foreign countries. As a legal principle, it is important that the declared value of imported goods is accurately reported to avoid customs clearance delays and in some cases, Fines & Penalties.
Retailers (Internet and Catalogue) may include information regarding the likelihood of additional charges for import duties and taxes on their shipping information page. To confirm, you may wish to check the Shipping Terms and/or Terms & Conditions of the retailer.
Sometimes this is the case. Products sold by overseas retailers may appear cheaper because they do not include Duties and Taxes.
Customs does not recognize a classification called Gifts. All imported items are subject Duties and Taxes and are payable as guided by Customs Authority in Barbados.
Duty is calculated as a percentage of the Customs value, (Cost of item + Insurance + Freight). Duties vary based on commodity per country.

Customs clearance can take within 1-2 business days dependig on shipment content. Delays may result where additional Governement agencies other Customs are required to release shipments. Plant Quarantine, Veterinary and Health authorities are examples of other government authorities.
Barbados Customs require freight costs be included to determine 'Customs Value'. Customs Value is made up of, (Cost of item + Insurance + Freight).
Barbados Customs reserves the right to review the value of shipments arrving into Country. Upon review, Customs may exercise discretionary authority to request additional proof as to the value of the shipment. DHL must comply with Customs request for additional proof of purchase and may inform you of such requests.
A proforma invoice is not an internationally recognized document used for transportation. Barbados Customs does not accept proforma invoices.

Each item has a different classification. Customs may request that each item be identified correctly in order to apply the correct classification.

Unfortunately ’a change of mind’, ‘how they fit’, or ‘simply not liking them’, is not a refund circumstance under the legislation.

- Online: Pay securely online via our trusted payment portal. Link will be notified via customized SMS or email notification
- In-Person: Pay by credit/ debit card or cash at our Service Center
- On-road Delivery - Creidit/ Debit only. Checks are accepted from approved commercial customers. No Cash policy.
A Shipper who has a valid DHL Express trade account, accesses a standard option to select payment of Destination fees and Duty & Taxes. If you have received an invoice for Duties & Taxes, this option was not selected by the shipper. If not initally selected, the account Shipper may request change to service by means of formal LOA - Letter of Authorization. Our customer Service team will gladly assist, email: bbcustomerservice@dhl.com Note - This service is not available to cash paid shipments.
