In general, all imports require formal customs clearance and therefore payment of VAT at 21% of the CIF price. In addition, products with a value of more than 150 euros are subject to customs duties, at a variable rate, depending on the type of goods and at 21% VAT. Alcoholic beverages, tobacco and perfumes always pay duty and VAT without any exemption.

Internet and catalogue retailers usually include advice regarding the likelihood of import duty and tax in their shipping information pages. Please check the retailer’s shipping notes, terms and conditions of your purchase, or contact the retailer directly.

From 1 July 2021 all imports, with independence of value, are subject to VAT.

Unfortunately, there's no duty/tax concession for gifts or samples.

Most online sales portals offer logistical solutions in these cases that involve the reimbursement of money paid for the item. Likewise, the importer can apply to the AEAT for the refund of the liquidated taxes, complying with the legally established conditions.

An administrative charge (Advance Payment Fee) is applied to any import for which DHL pays in advance duties, GST or regulatory charges on behalf of receivers. Charge is applied based on the credit advanced, subject to a standard minimum.

Click the Retrieve Duty/Tax Document button at the bottom of the Payment page. Follow the instructions to save the document in your computer.

The seller has different options to take care of import duties and taxes in the country of destination. By registering with the local tax office (IOSS) or by contracting a DHL service that pays the duties and taxes on their behalf. In both cases, this must be contracted or indicated in the documentation generated at origin.
